About Katie
Katie  started dancing in
Connecticut at age 4, bouncing
from Ballet to Acrobatics to Jazz
for 8 years. After "life"
circumstances forced her to give
up dancing in 1993, Katie's body
and mind went through many
changes. In 1997, she saw an
advertisement for belly dancing in
a local CT newspaper.  Despite a
long interest in ancient
Egyptian/Near Eastern cultures,
it took Katie another two years to
work up the courage to step back
into a dance studio with a
different body and learn a new
dance form. It was like coming
home.
Middle Eastern Belly Dancing
since 1999, Katie is now known for
her purposeful movements and
clear hip execution. With her
desire to dance like they dance in
homes "over there," Katie has
studied not only with national
and international teachers but also
with non-professional women
from Palestine and Jordan.  To
further complement her dancing,
Katie has begun studies in other
forms of belly dance, such as
American Tribal, Fusion, and
Egyptian Raks Sharki.
Furthermore, she received her
Dance Certificate from Naugatuck
Valley Community College in
2003, where she participated in
various dance forms and events
after belly dance gave her the
courage to try dance again.

Not just content as a solo
performer, Katie was a member of
the original Kadira Noor
Ensemble with the incredibly
talented Nerine Avital as well as
Salma Suha, a belly dance
ensemble that focused on eclectic
and powerful blends of all belly
dance forms, from traditional
dances to fusion pieces. At the
moment she is now investigating
becoming a performer with
another well respected and
eclectic ensemble under a very
special teacher...she'll let you
know!

On a personal level, Katie is one
of four children; she has one older
brother (and sister-in-law), one
older sister, and one younger
sister.   Not to mention one
special, fantastic, snuggle-bunny
of a dog...the Great McIntosh, aka
Don Juan deMaxie!  From a tight
community, Katie appreciates all
the people who have influenced
and cared for her throughout her
life.

Furthermore, with this dance
form, she has met some incredible
people and performers who were
also incredibly generous with
their time and knowledge.  A
special thank you to Leeza,
Phyllis, and Worood.  And Her
BD Fairy Godmother!

THANK YOU!!!
